Videos

Here are the videos of Korben I have been promising. This past weekend, my best friend Emily came to visit me. It was so much fun watching Korben interact with her. I think he was pretty sad to see her go!

I had just told Emily, "He really likes when you pretend like a stuffed animal is a puppet." I think he could have laughed all night long with this little "screaming- bear" routine she had going on. They seriously went back and forth with this for about 15 minutes. We were laughing so hard at him, we were crying.

For Christmas, my mom got us a Bose iPod dock. We are enjoying it so much! We just leave our iPod on it and listen to music all the time! Korben is loving it the most. He absolutely loves music. Whenever he is fussy, I just turn on an up-beat song and dance circles around him. Lets just say that he has been really in to "Cotton-eyed Joe" lately! Here he is with Emily, "Bringin' sexy back." **Please notice the dance break he does entirely with arm motions in the middle of this clip!

And last, but not least- Here he is discovering one of the best toys in our house. In fact, one of these toys is located in every room! It only took him learning to crawl for us to notice we even had these built in toys!

Little Stinker

I have some good news and not-so-good news to report.

The not-so-good news is that Korben is teething something FIERCE. Monday and Tuesday have were miserable days for him. I am trying everything, but nothing is really seeming to help. If he is awake, you can pretty much guarantee he is fussing. Of course, you won't believe me when you see the adorable picture below. I promise you, this mischievous smile was one of the only smiles I have seen in the past two days.

Good news is that his crawling skills are become quite incredible (says the proud momma!). He is following me around the house like a little puppy. Its really cute, except I don't think he wants me to know he is following me. When I turn around and catch him following me, he stops. When I turn back around to walk forward, I hear him coming after me. He is sort of like a 10 month old spy. He is also pulling up on everything! He really likes to crawl up to a drawer, open it, pull up on it, and then pull things out. Tonight, before I put him to bed, he found my swimsuit drawer (located inconveniently in our night stand, because it is I drawer I never need to open). He was so proud of himself.

Look at that face!

OFFICIALLY CRAWLING

My job as a stay at home mom has just taken on a more extensive job description. Part of that description would include, "keep Korben from crawling out of the house." Okay, maybe not out of the house, but he is officially "on the move." I can't believe how much has changed in one week! On Sunday the 11th, Korben could still not crawl. Sunday the 18th, he was promoted to the crawler room at church and he was keeping up with the best of them. I can't believe he is so good at something he has only been doing for a week. If he gets his eye on something he wants, it doesn't matter how far he has to go to get it. The things he wants the most: cell phone chargers, cords of any kind, gum wrappers, and pieces of lint that are (almost) to small for the human eye to see. It is pretty scary. Aaron and I just can't quit commenting on how different life seems at home with a moving baby. We were both in the bathroom brushing our teeth this morning and we just wanted Korben to sit on the carpet with his toys for a SECOND. Everytime I'd move him back to his toys, there he was, pulling up on our legs again!

One week ago, I first saw him standing in his crib. Of course, I was so proud of this new skill he had learned. I am no longer as enthusiastic about this little trick. I'm going to entitle it "the sleep stealer." You see, he will lay down to take a nap, sleep for about 5-10 minutes, and then stand up in his crib and scream until I come to get him. I don't think he has figured out that he can lay back down once he stands up. I'm determined to teach him this very soon, though. These 10 minute naps are not going to cut it.

He did NOT take a good nap after church yesterday, which means by 4:30 when I dropped him off in the church nursery he was incredibly fussy (due to exhaustion). When I came back to pick him up at 7, he had only napped for a few minutes, and spent most of his time crying. Poor ladies in the nursery! I'm convinced this behavior can be mostly blamed on no nap in the morning (because of church) and a lame afternoon nap (standing in crib). However, he did have a 101 temperature last night which made us think that an ear infection was possibly to blame for this fussiness. I couldn't help but take him to the doctor today to rule out an ear infection. He has only ever had one, and the only symptoms were fussiness and ear pulling. Now every time he is fussy and pulling on his ears, my heart is unsettled until I know for sure that he doesn't have an ear infection. Dr. Dupree said there was no ear infection. Yay! She said his fussiness could be coming from teething and the fever from some sort of cold.

My favorite thing about taking Korben to the doctor is finding out his height and weight. I could not believe how much he had grown in ONE MONTH. When I took him for his 9 month check up he was 22 pounds and 30 inches. Today he was 24 pounds and 31 1/4 inches. I told y'all he'd been making up for lost meals after that stomach virus.

I am having problems getting my videos uploaded to you tube, but hopefully I'll get them posted soon. I have some CUTE ones to show.

Bath time pictures!

Korben LOVES to take baths! One of the things I like so much about our house is in our master bathroom we have a really big bath tub! A lot of moms may view bath time as a chore, but I like to think of it as an activity. Sometimes, I just put on my swimsuit and get in with him. I like to pretend that Korben and I are going swimming in our indoor pool. Okay, our bath tub isn't that big, but we can pretend, right? He absolutely loves everything about being in the tub. He laughs and squeals when he watches the water run, he loves to splash, he loves to grab everything off he sides, he loves the squeaky sounds it makes when he rubs his hand on the side of the tub. He just never wants to get out! I think we definitely have a little swimmer on our hands! Check out these pictures of our happy baby.

*If you look really closely, you can see his top right tooth (our left) in some of the pictures. His top left one should be breaking through his gums any day now!

Thank you!

Thank you all who have helped me out today with my blog. I've still got a WHOLE lot to learn, but I definitely learned things today that I wouldn't have figured out without some of you. Thank you!

Still need help.

I still can't figure out how to get the Christmas stuff off my blog. As you can see I changed the template, but it only changed the center. How can I change ALL of it? I feel like I've been trying everything! If anyone has any suggestions to add, I would love to know!

Blog help

I obviously need a new background now that Christmas is over, but the website where I go to get my free backgrounds (cutest blog on the block) appears to be non-existent. I attempted to switch to one of the default templates, but as you can see that didn't help my problem. Could any of my expert blogger friends recommend a site that you use for your templates? I would appreciate any help I can get.

Standing in Crib!

Ladies and Gentlemen, THIS is what I saw when Korben woke up from his nap today! I could not believe my eyes!! I knew he had just woken up from his nap by the noise he was making, but I was in the middle of switching laundry over, so I didn't rush in his room. He probably waited on me for about 5 minutes, before I opened his door to find a STANDING BABY. He may have been standing like that for the whole 5 minutes for all I know! His mood shifted immediately from frustration (trying to get my attention) to excitement (LOOK at what I'm doing, Mommy!). Part of me wanted to go grab him, and more of me wanted to go grab my camera. I'm glad I did!

As of Korben's 9 month check-up(And through the holidays) Korben was still unable to get to the sitting up position after laying down. Dr. Beene thought that was odd, but told me not to worry. It just hit me today that I will be seeing him playing with his toys while laying down and all of a sudden I will look over and he will be sitting up. I wonder how long he has been doing it without me noticing? Not longer than a couple of days, I am sure. If he had been able to do this sooner, he would have been pulling up in his bed a LONG time ago. He has been pulling up on things from the sitting position for a months now. Now that he can sit up from the laying position (AND, can somewhat crawl), we have a whole new baby on our hands. I am anxious to see if I will have a standing baby greeting me in the morning when I go to his room to get him.

Our 10 month old.

Our "newborn" just turned 10 months old yesterday. It is unreal how close he is to turning one year old. I could cry just thinking about how fast this is all going!

Here is what is going on in the life of our 10 month old:

He is saying "Bye Bye" (not at the appropriate times yet), "DaDa" (his favorite thing to say), "MaMa" (He just started saying the middle of this past week. Earlier in the week it was coming out like "BaMa", pronounced like Obama. It was so funny), "Hey", and "Hi". He goes through phases where he says things more than others. I haven't heard him say "hey" or "hi" much lately. He is really on this "MaMa" and "DaDa" kick, which we love!

He is eating like a HORSE. Seriously. I feel like all I do is feed him. He is still drinking 4 bottles a day, but his desire for solid foods has definitely increased. He loves anything he can feed to himself. He loves to feed himself banana slices, torn up pieces of grilled cheese (soy cheese), and green beans. Really, I haven't found anything he hasn't liked yet.

He is so close to crawling, it is not even funny. In fact, I should probably just go ahead and say that he is crawling. However, the best crawling he does is backwards. He can get from one side of the room to the other by doing this backwards crawling thing. Breaking news though, THIS MORNING, he was on all fours and he quickly brought both of his legs underneath him at the same time (kind of looked like a grasshopper) and he shot forward. Forward motion is good! He was really excited about it, so maybe he will start "grasshoppering" all over the place. Most of the babies his age and older have just graduated to the "crawling class" at church. Korben is still in the baby room. I feel really weird about Korben being in the baby room because he looks so gigantic in there with all of the babies. But, until he is crawling well, he doesn't need to be in the crawling room either. I don't want him to get trampled!

He loves playing with his toys. He is such a content "player." He is also really into Peek-a-boo. His favorite thing is when we get one of his stuffed animals and make him think the animal is playing peek-a-boo with him. He will die laughing. I will try to get a video of this soon. He thinks anything a puppet does is way funnier than anything we do. For instance, he thinks the puppets on the Baby Einstein videos are the best thing ever!

He has not been sleeping as well as he usually does. He is still an incredible sleeper by most people's standards, but he has been waking up at least once a night this past week, and sometimes more than that. I've been doing a lot of research and I think he is either waking up to eat because he is going through a growth spurt, or it has to do with teething. Either way, I have a feeling he will be getting over it soon.

Speaking of teething, he has a grand total of 3 teeth. The only ones you can really see are his two bottom teeth, but one of the top teeth is definitely through the surface. I'm expecting any day to see the top tooth's matching partner come in right beside it.

He will NOT take a pacifier anymore when I put him to bed. If I try to put one in his mouth he grabs it and throws it. I went in to check on him last week while he was taking a nap and I see that he is still using his "built in" pacifier to go to sleep. (The day I took this picture it was 75 degrees outside, hence the "shirtlessness".)

Thank you for reading! Have a great day!

Baby's first Christmas

I bet some of you thought I would never update my blog again. Let me just say that neglecting to update a blog is just like neglecting to write a thank you note you know you need to write. You know you need to do it, but the more time that goes by, the more guilty you feel for not doing it when you needed to do it, so more time goes by until you say "enough is enough." Well, enough is enough, I am updating right now!

We left after church on Sunday the 21st to go to my mom's house for Christmas. Kim drove in from Nashville the same day and we were all there together until Thursday morning. We really stretched Christmas by celebrating at different times throughout the few days we were there.

-We celebrated with friends on Sunday afternoon.
-Kim and I had lunch with our girl cousins on Monday at Cantina Laredo.
-Tuesday night was Christmas with aunts, uncles, and cousins.
-Later on Tuesday night Mom, Kim, Aaron, and I celebrated Christmas together.
-On Wednesday morning (Christmas Eve) we let Korben open his gifts all by himself.

There was supposed to be one more Christmas party on Christmas Eve afternoon with MeMa at the nursing home. Just as soon as we were getting Korben dressed to go, he got SICK. He vomited 4 times in the course of an hour! We knew he must have had the stomach virus. So, to say the least, we didn't end up going to MeMa's party. We spent Christmas eve doing lots of laundry, and waking up in the night with a sick baby.

We drove to Heber Springs on Christmas morning to celebrate with the Rodgers family. Korben seemed to be a little better, so I was thinking this was probably just a 24 hour virus (HA...boy, was I wrong). He napped while we opened presents, woke up just in time for stockings, and held off on the vomiting and diarrhea until the middle of the night. Bless his heart, he did the best he could to have a great first Christmas! There were times that if someone didn't know him they would think he was well, and times that you just knew he was sick! Thursday was a pretty good day. He really enjoyed opening his gifts and playing with his new toys. Friday was full of Pedialyte, Friday night I caught the bug and it lasted about 4 hours (I am forever indebted to Julie for being my "mommy" for the night and cleaning up after me), Saturday was really good (thought he was well) and Sunday morning he was really sick again. I went back to my mom's house on Sunday to allow Aaron to have some time with his guy friends. As it turns out, Aaron didn't get to have a whole lot of fun because he caught the stomach virus too. Korben got really sick again on Monday morning. I took him to a doctor in north little rock. She said that stomach viruses can last 7-10 days. She was right. Korben wasn't completely well for 7 days!

I don't mean to sound like we didn't have any fun over our break. We absolutely did, and you will see that from the pictures. We already can't imagine celebrating Christmas without Korben in our lives. It is sooooo much more fun with him! Korben got some AWESOME Christmas gifts! You will see how much he loved all of his toys in the pictures. Aaron and I are particularly excited about some practical gifts he received! We are stocked up on formula and diapers for a while! In fact, I don't think we'll ever have to buy soy formula again because what we have will last us until he is a year old and can then drink whole milk, or soy milk. I don't know how long our diapers will last us, but probably at least 3 months. That is such a blessing! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I had so many pictures I wanted to post from Christmas, I decided to make a slideshow. I hope that is okay. I have to go to bed now. Korben has not been sleeping well lately and it is taking a toll on me. I will try to post tomorrow all about our 10 month old and what he is doing these days!
